Hans Koller follows up his tribute to Charlie Parker (Word from Bird) with Natural Science, a celebration of composer and theorist George Russell.

Recorded with an all-stellar 12 piece London band - featuring the likes of John O’Gallagher, Percy Pursglove, and Byron Wallen - the recording marks Russell’s centenary with highly imaginative re-workings of classic pieces from the late 1950s jazz workshop (Ezz-thetic, Ye Hypocrite, Knights of the Steamtable) alternating with Koller originals fusing Russell’s Lydian Chromatic Concept with Messiaen’s Third Mode (On Great Russell Street), Stravinsky’s Rotational Arrays (16), and Webern’s Derived Rows (Ducks in a Row).

Above all though, an album fizzing with jazz heat, groove, and feeling.
